The Benefits of the Raw Food Diet Plan

Monday, March 22nd, 2010

I have just written an article outlining nine benefits to the raw food diet plan.

I am sure that the benefits, as described, are real.

However, I have some doubts as well.

That is, I don’t doubt that the benefits are real — I question whether the raw food diet plan is the best or even only way to achieve these results.

Let’s think about it this way. Let’s say I was eating badly. And by badly, I mean large quantities of food that wasn’t particularly healthy. Let’s say I was eating a lot of foods containing sugar and processed carbs. Let’s say I was eating plenty of red meat, butter, cheese, whole milk and flavored yogurts. Let’s say I was eating a lot of baked goods, chips and snack foods that were high in transfats. And lets say that I wasn’t eating all that many fruits and vegetables.

So far, what I have described is a fairly typical North American diet. And its more than typical for a lot of folks who struggle with overweight.

So now let’s say I change my eating habits and now I eat food that is low in fat, low in processed carbohydrates and high in fiber and nutrients.

Within a couple of weeks, maybe less, I am going to feel better, guaranteed. I am going to experience many, perhaps all of the benefits attributed to the raw food diet.

So what I am saying here is that in my opinion, the benefits are attributed to healthy eating patterns, not to the fact that the foods are raw. Any healthy eating plan would give you the same results.

And as for the weight loss — who would want to overeat on a diet that is so limited and so boring. You would eat less simply because you had no interest in eating more of the permitted foods.

And secondly — who among us is going to stick with a raw food diet for the rest of our days? It would be a matter of time until you gave up and went back to the old routine.

If anyone is interested in pursuing the raw food diet, the Eating for Energy plan is as good as any.

But as for me, I still say the only lasting solution is something that permanently changes your emotional and psychological self. In my opinion, and based on personal experience, meditations like the Silva Method, EFT or other forms of tapping are the answer.

Using the Silva Method to Help Lose Weight

Monday, February 25th, 2008

The Silva Method has a lot to offer if you want to lose weight. First, I’ll explain what it is. To quote from the web site, “The Silva Method is a powerful, life-changing program developed over 50 years ago by Jose Silva.”  Originally, it was called Silva Mind Control but the name is now changed to Silva Method.

Based on scientific research, the Silva Method is a training program that I can only describe as a little like self hypnosis, a little like guided meditations, a little like spirituality, a little like the Law of Attraction and a little like good old fashioned positive thinking.

 The  Silva Method Explained

In short, the training teaches you to reach a deep meditative state quickly and easily. By the end of this training, you can reach alpha level or theta level of brain waves simply by touching three fingers together and counting downwards from three to one. In that meditative state, you program or reprogram your brain to create the results you want.

With the Silva Method, you can relax quickly, fall asleep without the use of sleep aids, awaken at the time you want without use of an alarm clock,  improve your memory, use dreams and other methods to solve problems, change behaviors or break habits, manage or remove pain instantly, increase intuition, develop ESP abilities and heal physical conditions that are troubling you. I have personally had some remarkable health – related results from the Silva Method. I have described those experiences at How to Lose Weight Quickly with the Silva Method

Using the Silva Method to Lose Weight

Among the many other benefits you can expect from the Silva Methods is the ability to “program your mind” to develop an eating pattern that achieves your weight goals, whatever they may be. Personally, I created a Silva Method program to help me achieve my desired weight and maintain it — and to enjoy the healthy, nutritious foods that I now eat.

Availability

The Silva Method is available through a home study course or through live workshops if there is a trainer in your area. Either one works well although I personally prefer the live workshops. Once you have attended a live workshop, you can attend and re-attend as many times as you want for a small fee. If you’re interested in learning more, the Silva Method web site offers a free ebook and audio file to get you started.

I took the Silva Method for the first time in the seventies. I was young at the time and didn’t fully appreciate its power. I re-took the course a year ago. I can now say that I have a complete commitment to practice this amazing method for the rest of my life.

I can’t speak highly enough of all the Silva Method  has done for me, both as an aid to lose weight and for other things as well. If anyone is serious about creating lasting and deep changes, I suggest you give it a try.

This EFT Script Overcomes Resistance to Losing Weight

Friday, February 22nd, 2008

Do you need to lose weight but just can’t seem to take the first step? EFT tapping is a wonderful tool to help you overcome whatever excuses you have for delaying the inevitable if you just can’t force yourself to do it.

Let’s say your favorite excuse is, “Everybody in my family is overweight.”

Why not tap that away?

Before starting any tapping session, be sure you have a drink of water. You brain works very hard during a tapping session and it requires hydration.  Drink water periodically during your tapping rounds as well.

Begin tapping, going around the tapping points that you typically use.

The following script is a good one. It gradually takes you through your resistance. Repeat as often as needed, and use on every excuse that comes to mind.

The EFT Script for Overcoming Diet Resistance

Even though I can’t lose weight because everybody in my family is overweight, I deeply and completely accept myself.”  Done three times.

I can’t lose weight.  It’s in my family. We’re all overweight. There is nothing I can do about it.  You can’t fight your genes. It’s not my fault. I have no control over this. I’m helpless against my family background. I’m doomed to be overweight just like mom or dad. There’s nothing I can do. It’s out of my hands. There’s no point even starting a diet. I don’t even want to lose weight. I want to be fat. I like being fat. It’s my destiny. Nobody is going to make me lose weight  Nobody is going to control me. I won’t give in to anybody. I’ll stay as fat as I want. It’s my business anyway.

Of course, I can see some advantages to losing weight. It might be worth considering some  day. Not today though. Not for a very long time. Maybe sometime I might consider losing weight. I might be okay to look slim and fit. I might like how I feel when I’m slender. I’d probably feel better. My partner would like it. My sex life might improve. My health would be better.

Maybe its worth thinking about losing weight. Maybe I might think about going on a diet. I think I might. I might do it. I might really get serious about this. I’m gong to do it Yes I am. I’m going to start losing weight right away. I want to do this.

It’s my decision. I’m in control here. I intend to have a slim, fit healthy body. I deserve to be healthy and fit. I’m doing it now. I’m doing it. I’m ready now. I can do this thing and I will do it. And that’s the way its going to be.

This is just one of the many ways that EFT tapping can help to promote weight loss.

Top Ten Ways for Using EFT to Lose Weight

Wednesday, February 20th, 2008

EFT tapping (emotional freedom technique) is a huge benefit to anyone wanting to lose weight or to maintain a weight loss.

EFT is a component of the new Energy Psychology. It’s simple to do, easy to learn, has no known side effects, and its amazingly effective. Essentially, you tap your fingers on various acupuncture points while focusing on an emotion or condition you want to change.  The process redirects electromagnetic energies associated with emotion, behaviours, physical health and well-being.

If you’ve never done EFT tapping before, it sounds, looks and feels very strange. However, as I said earlier, its enormously powerful. And, the good news is that you don’t have to believe in EFT for it to work. Your belief is unimportant. The healing happens at an energy level. You will believe in it after you experience the results — and in a lot of cases, you will achieve results that eluded you through the more traditional approaches.

Here are ten tips for using EFT to lose weight and keep it off.

 1. EFT Tapping to Reduce Food Cravings.

Do several rounds of tapping to reduce food cravings. “Even though I crave this chocolate cake…”  After some rounds of tapping, the craving for the cake is gone.

 2. EFT Tapping for Emotional Eating

Many overweight people are emotional eaters.  When you feel upset, you eat. When you feel angry, you eat. When you feel anxious.,  you eat.  By tapping directly on the emotion you are feeling, you remove this uncomfortable emotion and the desire to overeat goes away along with it.

Suppose you have anxiety over money matters. Your anxiety drives you to eat food high in fats, sugars and starches. EFT tapping removes the anxiety, and that has two benefits. Not only have you removed the desire to overeat, but without this worry and fear, you’re in a better frame of mind to find a solution to the money situation.

“Even though I am so worried about paying my bills this month…. ”

3. EFT Tapping for Vague Discontent

Sometimes you just feel unhappy, irritable and discontented for no good reason. This erodes your motivation to eat sensibly. You just don’t give a darn.  Even in this situation, EFT is the answer. “Even though I’m feeling “blah” and don’t know why…. ”

 5.  EFT Tapping to Remove Resistance to Starting a Diet

Sometimes you put off starting a diet even though you really want to be rid of the excess weight. Going on a diet means a change of lifestyle that seems uncomfortable.  You are keenly aware of “what you will be giving up.” You anticipate great hunger. You dislike eating fruits and vegetables. You don’t want to exercise.  EFT tapping helps you overcome this resistance. You may have to tap persistently for a few days or longer before you are clear about your commitment. “Even though I don’t want to start a diet…”

6. EFT Tapping to Improve Self Esteem

Obesity leads to self hatred and lowered self esteem. Self hatred does not motivate you to diet and improve your life. The lower your self esteem, the harder it will be for you to make a commitment to health and fitness. Use EFT regularly to remove self hatred related to weight issues and self hatred related to anything else. ‘Even though I feel badly about myself …”

7. EFT Tapping to Remove Resistance to Exercise

Dislike exercise? What excuses do you come up with to avoid exercising regularly? Identify whichever one you are using today, and tap, “Even though I don’t want to exercise because ….”   The resistance will reduce after a few rounds of tapping.

8.  EFT Tapping to Prepare for Dangerous Eating Situations

Worried about losing control of your eating at the birthday party or other social activity? Tap in confidence and commitment before you go. “Even though I am afraid of losing control of my eating tonight…”

9. EFT Tapping to Deal with Plateaus

Plateaus are discouraging. You’re doing everything right and the scales won’t budge. Instead of giving up and ordering a pizza, do some EFT tapping. “Even though I’m discouraged because I haven’t lost weight for two weeks…”

10. EFT Tapping to Reinforce Positive Messages

Every day, do a few rounds of tapping to reinforce your commitment to your new lifestyle.  Think of all the positive lifestyle messages you want to strengthen, then go through several rounds of tapping while saying them aloud. eg  “I intend a slim, fit, healthy body.”

Want to know how to Lose Weight Quickly? Diets DO WORK

Saturday, February 16th, 2008

Does this sound familiar?  You tell somebody you are going on a diet to lose weight. Immediately, before the last word is out of your mouth, somebody will burst forth with an  emphatic statement that goes something like this:

“Diets DON”T WORK!  You gain the weight back after a diet.”

This statement is inevitable. Its as inevitable as the fact that its going to rain in Vancouver, where I live. In case you don’t know, Vancouver is located in a rain forest. Locals call it “Raincouver.”

So yes, somebody will hang the “Diets don’t work” statement on you within seconds and everybody else present will chime in to agree.  Faster than you can say Weight Watchers,  people will have volunteered their insights as to  how to lose weight quickly. This sage information will usually include the news that you need to eat different foods, you need to eat small quantities of these foods, and you need to get exercise.

Somebody, generally a young person with a naturally fast metabolism, will advise you that cutting back on desserts and potatoes and going for a walk every day is all that’s necessary.  She (its always a she) did that and dropped ten pounds without even thinking about it.

Wonderful.

First, let me say that for some lucky people, giving up desserts and walking a bit every day really does burn off the fat. I envy these people. I would greatly love to count myself among their numbers.

But I am not like them.

My metabolism does not burn fuel at such a high speed. I do not lose weight unless I restrict my food intake to about 1200 calories a day, give or take, and add cardio exercise to get the metabolism boosted up. Most people who have a serious and chronic weight problem are in the same boat as I am. The cut back a little and walk to the corner store instead of driving won’t do a damned thing for them in terms of weight loss.

Now let’s go back to the wise people who feel compelled to tell us that diets don’t work.  You don’t need to ask them what does work, because they’ll tell you without you needing to ask. Their advice: You need to eat less food, eat different food and get exercise.

A Diet by Another Name is Still a Diet

Hmmm. Let’s look at this carefully. Eat less food. Eat different food. Get exercise.

Do you know what that describes?  Here’s what it describes. It describes a DIET PLAN.

Check out any of the major weight loss centers and diet plans and that is exactly what you find. They all advocate eating small quantities of healthy food and combing it with exercise. That’s the approach that Nutrisystem, Jenny Craig, Weight Watchers and probably a bunch of others take.

You could also go to a nutritionist and get an eating plan that will promote weight loss. This will involve eating small quantities of healthy foods. The nutritionist will tell you to exercise. If your physician agrees, you can consult a fitness trainer and get a routine set up that suits your lifestyle.  Here again, notice what you’re doing. Eating less and moving more.  A .. dare I say it, DIET?

So, the good folks who assure you that diets don’t work are actually recommending a lifestyle plan that is, in fact, a DIET!  Isn’t that hilarious?  Point it out to them if you’re brave, but don’t expect very many to see the humour the way you and I do.

Thumbs Down to Fad Diets

Now I should point out that I agree with the nay-sayers if you are talking about fad diets that restrict calories to a very low daily level or ask you to eat only certain foods. You will lose weight with these fad diets, but you do it at the expense of your health.  You are likely to be burning muscle instead of fat and that’s not a good thing.

Now let’s move on to the rest of the dire warning. The Diets Don’t Work People will tell you that you regain the weight afterwards.

Yes. Chances are, that is exactly what happens. However, almost everyone who loses weight, regardless of how it comes off, regains it. I don’t know the percentage, but I think I have read that its something like 90%. Even people who have had the gastro bypass surgery are prone to regain again. It’s not the diet that causes the regain afterwards. It’s the fact that it’s almost impossible for most of us to continue eating the small quantities of food that allows us to maintain our weight loss.

Is it Your Will Power?

Some call this a lack of will power, to which I say Bull Durham.

Anybody who has stuck to a diet long enough to lose 30, 40, 50, 60 pounds or more has will power to burn.

The real problem is rooted in our unconscious mind. Until that problem is addressed, we’ll continue to regain the weight and no amount of shaming, scolding, ridiculing or appealing to our common sense will help.

But there is help — something that really works. And that’s what this blog and the accompanying web site,  How to Lose Weight Quickly is all about.
